Introduction. Walsham in the Middle Ages. This intimate history of the Black Death is focused on the village of Walsham le Willows in west m—it acquired the suffix “le Willows” only in the sixteenth century—lies some twelve miles northeast of what was the important monastic town of Bury St. Edmunds, and about the same distance from the market towns of Diss and Stowmarket.
